Detailed about the Ashram
The Sadhu Tapovan Ashram was founded in 2013 and is located in a picturesque area of the Altai Mountains on the banks of the Katun River. The Altai Mountains have a special mystical atmosphere, and many spiritual seekers come here in search of the meaning of life and deep meditative immersion. In Altai, various religious denominations and spiritual traditions coexist tolerantly.
Until 2023, the ashram is being developed with the support of the karma-sannyasi and grihastha disciples under the spiritual guidance and supervision of Mahant Vedamatri Giri. The format of the ashram made it possible to combine the peculiarities of the lifestyle of family practitioners and high standards of sadhana, including daily practice, service, following the established retreat rule, as well as studying the teachings and passing exams according to the requirements.
From September 2024, due to the long retreat of Mahant Vedamatri Giri, Swamini Sathya Tejasi Giri becomes the mahant of the ashram. Monastic and lay wings were formed in the ashram, and it became a monastic ashram of WSDC, and admission to monastic training was open to all those wishing to enter this path.
In the ashram, collective ritual practices, sandhyas and meditations are held daily, there is an opportunity to undergo individual and collective retreats, study according to the program of a twelve-year course, as well as regularly celebrate Vedic holidays and organize pilgrimages to the highlands of Altai.
In 2024, the ashram elaborated a plan for the development of the ashram for the next ten years. The plan includes the construction of Shiva and Lakshmi temples, a large altar hall, monastic cells, a yoga hotel, the Dhanvantari Vedic Medicine Centre, a mountain retreat centre and a large Vedic settlement near the ashram.
Currently, a guest house is being completed on the territory of the ashram, which was named 'Bhakti-nivas' ('Abode of Devotion'). Bhakti-nivas is the place where the brahmacari and karma-sannyasis who live permanently in the ashram reside. New mandalas are developed in the ashram: the mandala of yoga tours, the mandala of Sanskrit study, the mandala of Vedic sweets ('ganeshariki') consecrated on the altar of the ashram; and the creation of a bell tower has begun and the mandala of landscape design continues to develop.
